Default What colour laser printer?

I've had a really hard time trying to figure out which one to buy.

Looking for something that has good photo printing quality for under $500.

At the moment I'm kinda set on the Brother HL-4040CDN but wanted to see if someone here has some input on the topic.

Laser for photo is really not the way to go. If you want to print photo stick with ink jet. If you just want picture then 3175N from samsung is 200$ this week at NCIX.

I should clarify that. It's not for photos to put on the wall, just for a quick printout in colour.

I spent 4 hours trying to fix this HP D7360 just to find out that 30% cartridge level actually means it's empty. Screw ink jets.

Pick and choose. Samsung, Brother. Print quality vs. speed vs. price vs. free shipping!

Newegg.ca - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

Best IMO: Newegg.ca - brother MFC Series MFC-9120CN MFC / All-In-One Up to 17 ppm 600 x 2400 dpi Color LED Digital Printer; on special, free shipping.

There are so many different range and brads coming up, you can make a choice from any of them. Every one has some or the other advantages.

I haven't used the laser version, but I'm on my second Brother MFC inkjet and would strongly recommend them. OTOH, I also have a samsung duplex BW laser that I've been quite pleased with, and the replacement toner prices can't be beat. ;)

I was in the same situation a couple of month's ago. I ended up with the Brother 9120CN.

Pro's

Price
Fiarly decent color printing
True MFP (scanner (both flatbed and ADF), Fax, Printer and Copier)
Pretty Straight Forward Setup

CON's

Toner yield is a bit low (2100-3100 pages at %5)
Drum kits need to be replaced separately from toner (At 15,000 prints)
Envelope/Label Feeder can only do one sheet a time
FAX Loses some settings when power is cut (from the wall not the power switch)
Scan to network can be tricky to setup

Overall it's a pretty decent device. I was also looking at hp and canon. The problems with them are that

1. HP's MFP are pretty much all garbage (everything from the cheaper ones all the way up to the larger 3035 series)
2. Canons are nice but the toner is really expensive (around 150-180 per cartirdge)

In the end i am happy with the brother. Also the drum kit for the 9120 includes a full set of drums (all 4 colors)

Also if you have a small car the box is huge so you might have trouble getting it in without taking it out of the box.
