I bought a HP 1600 Color laser a while back, and am still stuck with banding issues. HP support is of no help, and there is a rather large thread about it over that the HP support site. They simply don't care.

Samsung is the way to go.

Maybe their newer models aren't good. I've only really used older black and white lasers from them, although they have all been very good.

So no one knows what to do with the ink I got left over?

And I'd need an all in one laser printer if I go laser. That'll be WAY too expensive.

I think you take your ink to electronics recycle centre (NOTE: I THINK).

I recommend a Brother monotone laser printer all in one if you are on a budget. My Brother DCP 7020 is pretty good at printing black and white. Plus the toner is pretty cheap @ ~<$50. The scan function is OK but then again, I don't scan images or that sort of stuff. The best part is that it is <$100 when on sale at Bestbuy.

Oh it was under there. I was looking under laser printer and didn't find any all in ones.

Hmm... $75 for ink system or $250+ for a all in one. Well we all know what's being favoured right now, especially with the $100 worth of ink I got...

I'm guessing it can't be mix and matched with another inkjet printer, even if they're both EPSON?

holy hijack! start another inkjet vs laserjet thread

Old ink. I doubt you can use your old ink on a different model of printer. if you want to re-use your ink, make that a part of your replacement printer criteria (see if it's compatable). I find it highly unlikely you can _harvest_ the ink out of those old cart's and dump them into a HP cartridge or something.... plus very messy.

Epson is the only small form factor printer i know of that has a continuous ink system. HP does in the larger form factors (OfficeJet series). On top of that, you have the ability of printing 11x17 on most of their OfficeJet series (could be handy for large photo reproductions.)

Recycle the cartridges! Staples will take the old empties for recycling.

The ink are in bottles and not in the ink cartridge. Said bottles are filled to the top with ink... That's at least $100 worth of ink there.

if the cartridges you get with a new printer can be refilled, then you can use that ink when the original bottles get empty; the ink formulas will be a bit different, so that means you will have to calibrate your printer.
every different make and kind of ink needs its own calibration.

if you don't have the equipment to calibrate the printer, then you can use Photoshop's "image - adjustments - selective color". Use the "relative" method for that.

doing it this way will not give you perfectly balanced colors, but it will be very near.

hope that helps. :-)
