Default Why use big mouse pads ?

Its time for my dumb question of the day.

There are many sizes of mouse pads and I don't really see the point in using one which is larger than (roughly) 8x10. I mean, even on such a pad, I only use about 20% (or less) of the surface in the middle.
Now, given the price of such mouse pads, I am sure they appeal to someone who knows what he's doing, but I just don't get who that or for what that may be.

some people are dumb and like to swing their mouse with low sensibility from a side to another of the room. They make use of these pad. If you have high sensibility and mmove only your wrist then get a little one since you have no need for a landing path mouse pad.

I'd think it depends on what you're doing, and how critical fine adjustments are to your task.

If a person is doing something like artwork using a mouse, less sensitivity will allow them to make finer adjustments over a larger surface than high sensitivity on a small surface.

Ya that's what I told myself, but those mouse pads sell for a price which is excessive for such people, so I am assuming that there must be another reason.

For better traction, when you have a glass top, to be softer on your mouse's feet.

actually glass makes sense, but the other reasons don't bother me too much :P - causes more problems then it solves.

Agree. My desk is in wood and with or without mouse pad make no difference. The mouse is the bigger difference. If you have professional work to do with a death precise need, get a trackball or a graphic tablet.

Its very simple why people have big mouse pads.

you ever played a FPS game with a multi res mouse? you set the res very low so you can sneak in a few headshots...
but then something happens off to your left and you need to look over there, only you cant because your mouse is almost useless with the res so low, so what do you do?
swing your hand WAAAAAAAAAAY off a couple times, to try an aim before you die. at this time, the big pad is worth every penny. before that, its a complete waste of money.
