Pre DPI-on-the-fly though, thats why they started making them. For the serious FPS gamers, a low dpi setting was great for sniping / long range gunfights, but then when you wanted to do some run n' gun, you needed the huge mousepad to make that dpi work.

I concur. Those belong in the garbage IMHO. With Laser Technology being what it is it makes the mousepad obsolete and useless.

Now a glass surface....ok....MAYBE since the new lasers can compensate for that.

Just my $2 with HST.

Because a desk will destroy your mouse feet much faster than a decent mouse pad will. I wrecked plenty of feet by using my desk, and when I got a good pad my problems just went away.

This.

I was a pretty serious FPS player myself. I only use plastic/alum pads sized like the Func 1030. It depends on the playstyle honestly, however I seldom see my friends or me switching DPI on the fly. My 2 cents, play with the same sensitivity until you get godly at it. I've stuck with 800DPI back from the optical default, now to laser.

I have a large mouse pad, and honestly the only reason I can think of it being useful is that I can use both my desktop and laptop mice on the same pad if I'm using both.
