Question Ergo Gaming mouse/kb suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new system, and I wouldn't mind getting a new kb/mouse combo.

My mouse is a ridiculously old logitech optical cord mouse (i'm talking a good 5-7 years old), but still works really well. The only problem is that I'm restricted by the standard left, right, and wheelmouse buttons and wouldn't mind a few other right-at-my-finger-tip buttons. I don't hold it like a claw however, my hand rests right on the mouse.

As for KB's, I used to have a microsoft ergonomic KB that I absolutely loved until I bent the ps/2 connector and it broke off. This was recently replaced with a Logitech G15 that I was suckered into buying and thoroughly dislike. My wrists cramp after a while (I have big hands and the keyboard feels a little small.

Any suggestions on ergo, but gaming compatible, keyboards? I don't care for the extra 4837289 buttons I get, like with the G15 - just something that will do me well.

Thanks!

I recommend the OCZ Equalizer @ TD Direct for $18.89

My System Specs

Default

Well for a mouse, I would say Razer since Razer is awesome . Razer mice to check out are the Diamondback 3G, DeathAdder, or Copperhead (little older). If you dont think you'd like any of those mice however, then I would recommend the Logitech G5 2nd Gen (don't mind the pricetag, it's much cheaper at many places.)(G7 if you prefer cordless.)

For keyboards I'm not sure, Used to have a Saitek Eclipse and that was pretty good, loved the back-lit keys and all, but it broke (don't ask). If you like the Eclipse then I would recommend the Eclipse II, which is the newer version. (3 colors of lights and media control buttons.) The keyboard I replaced my Eclipse with is a Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000, needed one on the cheap since I was low on cash (and a G15 wouldn't fit on my kb tray,) and I like it; it's very inexpensive, but it doesn't feel cheap at all. The keys are all sort of curved, and it has laptop style keys. I'm still not quite used to it' curvy-ness, but I will someday. As for the laptop keys it makes it much more silent.

This combo looks really nice too. Depends when they are gonna get them on stock.
I can vote for the Comfort Curve 2000, my friend has it from bestbuy 19$ and it's amazing..my Logitech keyboard has all sorts of food sorting in it..If i turn it around and shake it my god, I don't wanna imagine what comes out :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it.

That video on the diamondback site was crazy - I've never seen a mouse so hyped before. It was also rather surprising to see my tattoo in the upper right corner of the website...although stylized differently

@OMGWTF: I think I am going to get the Diamondback 3G, 7 progammable buttons is awesome, and the fact that I can choose the colour of the led is wicked. I can't believe how technical mouses have become...gamers sure are sophisticated with their "20g of acceleration", DPIs and response times.

As for KB, I think I am going to get the microsoft ergo 4000. I wish I could get an ergonomic gaming keyboard with backlighting. Hmm maybe I'm on to something here...then again gamers stay up all night eating pizza and drinking caffeine - I doubt they are interested in ergo. Tendonitis? Who cares, game on!

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Cipher: I hold my mouse the same way, by putting my hand on it and I also have meaty paws. I would stay away from Razer mice. They are more geared towards people who use the fingertips to move the mouse(ie. claw method) they are dainty and small not for people who hold the mouse but for those weirdos who use their fingertips like a ballerina.

Logitech mice are more suited to people who hold the whole mouse. Like the MX518, G5, etc.

Both mice companies are equally good but if you hold the mouse like you mentioned then you will find Razer mice too small and your hand will be uncomfortable after a while.

As for a keyboard, I was thinking of the G15 actually because I liked the LCD screen, I was dreaming of what I could do with it...but you say it is small? I keep reading that it is the biggest kb around?

I also hear good things about those Zboard's but I haven't tried one myself...not exactally ergo but I thought I 'd mention it.

I believe it is the largest. I have the G11, which is the same keyboard minus the LCD screen and it measures 21 1/2" x 8 1/2"

@Qwerty: the G15 is big, I'll give it that. It has 18 programmable keys on the left side (but 3 macros can be assigned to each for a total of 54). As far as the standard keyboard layout is concerned, sometimes I find it a little cramped. Keep in mind that this is coming from the M$ ergonomic split keyboard, which has plenty of room compared to everything else. The G15 LCD is great, and there is a modding community that has many add-ons for it. From my experience, the biggest downfall is that the screen is not supported by many games. Oh, and it doesn't have three backlight colours to choose from, and you can only have low/high/off brightness. All in all however, it isn't bad for gaming at all, but for typing long essays I find it doesn't hold up.
