Some UPS reccomendations please...

What sort of UPS power requirements would I need for an hour of uptime, specs:

q9450
2 gig 800mhz ddr2
Antec earthwatts 600w
ATI 4350
2-WD Caviar 640 in raid1
17" lcd

I'd say buy the PPC&C one from NCIX and call it a day. Might be overkill, or might not be, but it's about the best you're gonna get for runtime without getting stupid.

...unless you have a friend that works in the industry where they sell inverters and such for the solar panel solutions, etc.

I have an APC 750VA (Backup UPS ES 750) & am very happy with it.

Some people don't like the Backup series from APC because they aren't pure sine wave.

If OW's review on Jonnyguru is any indication, that thing is badly overpriced for what you get. A shame, because I was really looking at it closely.

APC's Backup series aren't pure sine wave, but they're not bad at all. I have the 1300VA version, and it's been rock solid, keeping my computer fully stable in the middle of benching and stressing, even during brownouts and power outages. The 750 model would be a nice match for your rig (although technically speaking, not strong enough for you to max out your power supply in the future).

I personally have this one on my primary system. It's good for about 30min with my system drawing over 300W. The stepped 'sine' wave ones apparently can cause some PSU's to whine, but mine doesn't.
