I dont know what the proper name for the cable is, but its the cable that plugs into a motherboard usb socket. the one I have is too short and I can't make it reach. Any suggestions? are there extensions made?

If it plugs into a board USD socket, then it's the one. Do you have a pic?

I'll get you a picture as soon as I get home from work today.
When I click the link you posted it shows just a normal usb extension cable, and all the comments bellow it say that its just a normal usb extension.

I believe he was referring to a USB Header extension.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is what he's looking for....

USB Internal Header Extension Cable [USB-INTEXT] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a canadian distributer, it might take a product request for something his specialized (and rarely needed).

YEAH! thats exactly it...except its for a media card reader and the one you linked is only half of the actual header. Could you buy 2 and put them together?

NM, they have a 10 pin cable on the site! thats AWESOME!

Yes you could buy 2. Each 4 (or 5) pin header = 1 usb port.

Seems kinda pricy though, I wonder if the existing wires could just be spliced without worrying too much about shielding.

Yap, did it before with a USB cable I wanted really long, used regular telephone wire which I believe is also shielded works great.
