I run same as cranky and so far best headset I have ever used, but again I wouldnt pay 150+ for a set either. I only use headset for Civ4, rest of time I have a 780w 5.1 sound system, way better then any headset.

I agree with Cranky, I have a set of the Creative headphones and they are decent (not as good as my Senn 555s but still not bad). If you shop around you can find them for as low as $39 on sale. The boom mic comes off and they are comfortable. If you break them it isn't too bad either.

So what did you go with ? I'm looking for a set again after a bad experience with the Tritton AX360 5.1 surround set. The microphone started producing heavy static after only around 10 sessions, same thing happened to a friend with his AX51's.

I also found the undersized rear driver takes away from 5.1 as mentioned in many reviews. And this review Inside Mac Games Review: Tritton Technologies AXPC & AX360 Headsets I found after purchase made me glad Tiger had no more in stock and just gave me a refund - "if you want to use the mic you cant use the breakout Dolby box basically turning them into cheaper AX51's "

I'd like a 5.1 and mic but a lot reviews note either quality/comfort or weak sound/bass issues for surround headsets in my range (130 or so) I'm now thinking of going with a stereo set since I also have the X-fi card and it can do pseudo surround sound using the X Crystalyzer It seems to work with my mp3 buds OK.

Has anyone else compared the X-FI surround to a set of 5.1 surround headset ?

Thanks John

I originally had a cheap Logitech USB headset. I had no idea what I was missing until I went to FS and got the Creative Wireless headset. Despite them sounding much better and providing decent positional audio, certain sounds, like a gunshot, didn't sound right at all, and they were uncomfortable after a short period of use. They whetted my appetite for better sound, so I splurged and bought a Prelude 7.1 sound card and the Sennheiser PC350s. These are quite simply the best things I have ever listened to. I'm now re-ripping all my CDs at higher bit rates to fully enjoy them. Plus, even though I wear glasses, they're extremely comfortable for hours on end.

That is my only problem with my creative wireless headset is the glasses. Though, usually I just extend them just past where my glasses sit and it's fine. Really they're the best I've had and I find the sound quality to be pretty decent and the battery life = 5-8 hours. I just love not having a wire bugging me.
