Default 4870 overclocking

Has anyone broken through the CCC overdrive limits on the core (790) which seems to give about a 5-6% improvement.

The PCB is apparently over engineered and has about 50 watts of headroom so there should be plenty of room for more?

Be nice to overclock the stock cards to around 850 iwith some decent cooling? I was hoping they would update CCC overdrive or rivatuner to open things up a bit.

Or does the firmware lock the card right down.

I think you're pretty much on the lock down for right now. Many guys are modding the bioses, but bricking the cards in the process, so I'd stay away from that stuff until they get a real bios editor sorted out for it.

Just buy another one ;)

yes vinister- seems to be no developments yet-just have to sit and wait. At least the reports of dead cards seem to have stopped now the bios issue is resolved.

Ive reactivated my order for the HD4870 and will get another once I work out what main board to buy to run them. Should get a bit more out of tinkering with crossfire and a more complex board.

I'd like to go P45 and 2x 4870's...would save some money for a nice snorkel...otherwise its X48

I hate that ATI does this, had the same issue with 3850, had to flash a BIOS to pass 860 lock. :/
