Default Team Cup 2017: July 1 to Sept. 30

If you like stuff, then boy oh boy have I got the stuff for you! Stuff lovers one and all gather 'round to hear tell of the 2017 Team Cup!

Last year, it took the combined efforts of several HWC overclockers in order to finish in 8th place - another impressive Top 10 finish for the little team that could from the Great White North.

That's going to be a challenging feat to repeat this year as the competition stages in Team Cup 2017 are many and varied. While the breadth of the competition is the thing that makes it so challenging, it's also one of the great things about it because there are so many different competition categories, old and new, that you're almost guaranteed to have the kind of hardware needed to participate in at least one or two of them.

Please feel free to use this thread to discuss, plan, ask for help, share tips and tweaks and generally enjoy each other's company as we work together to take on the world!

Oh, and check this out... we're not just competing for pride and for glory this year. There are all kinds of cool PRIZES! Intel Core i7 chips, Gigabyte X299 mobos, insanely fast G.Skill DDR4-4266 sticks, Seasonic PSUs, and more! Prizes are gonna be awarded to the top teams overall and the top scores in each category, but there are also gonna be lucky draw winners as well for everybody who participates - so get in on the action!

I'll keep track of submissions in this post to make it easier to see where the team could use your help. I would suggest posting in this thread first before attempting a benchmark because there may be specific rules or tweaks you'll need to know in order to get a good score. Happy benching!

Note that for each stage that requires multiple scores, different CPUs (for 2D) or GPUs (for 3D) must be used. So for Stage 2.6, for example, we can't all use 980Ti's - we'd need 1x 980Ti, 1x 980 and 1x 970 (or something along those lines).

First thing I'm going to do is Stage 3.3 with an E8600. Anybody else who wants to do Stage 3.3 would do well to use Windows XP as by far the best OS for PiFast.

I'll start with 3.3 as well, since I'm already sorta set up for it...

Edit: E8500 up here

Good stuff Val! Think it was Vortex who was looking forward to some LGA775 fun... Yup, it was. Maybe I'll send him a PM.

Actually, I'll probably fire in a sub for 4.3 first. It's only a 2450M so hopefully we'll end up with three better ones, but I'll put it up anyway.

I'm going to try to find a cheapish unlocked Sandy or Ivy of some sort for 1.2 as I like the SuperPi 32M game. Too bad it's not a clock limited challenge.

I fondly remember that 2450M of yours - it is capable of some quite good things! The resale value of unlocked LGA1155 parts is still quite high, owing to how competitive they remain against current gen hardware, so I wish you well in your search! I started comparing notes with GoldenSilverPiglets today, and for Stage 1.2 we can cover off 2600K and 2500K, so might I suggest attempting to find a 3770K or 3570K?

I know you don't need me to tell you - but SPi32 is all about the bus speeds. So if you've got good DDR3 for SPi32, then you should do Stage 3.4 with it too.

I can't believe there is still no work around to allow Win10 submissions. I am on Win10 on everything and won't be reverting. Unfortunately there are probably a lot of people that are in a similar situation and would love to submit, but can't do to OS.

All the best with the competition though!

Yeah, I know what you mean. FWIW that's not HWBOT's issue, though, it's Microsoft's.

Win10 is good to go with anything Skylake or Kaby Lake. Also, there are a few benches with built-in software level clock detection like XTU, GPUPI & 3DMark - so Win10 is good to go with those as well.
