Holy cwap.... what's the spd on those mem sticks?

I'm thinking that loosening the cas to 3 would allow you to get a bit more freq out of that mem. (probably time do drop down another level though to keep trying to find the max of your cpu).

Looking good though, you might want to try an overnight Prime95 to see if it's stable at the current settings.

Oh, and you should probably start running speedfan or something similar to keep an eye on the temps.

You're probably getting close to max safe temps if you're using the stock cooler.

56 is really pushing the limit if you want to get any life out of the chip. I usually draw the line at 50, and I'm a lot more comfortable with a max around 40.

As for what to use as a replacement for air?

I had great luck with a Hyper6+ on S754 semprons and my 3700+. Other folks have had a lot of luck with the typhoon.

How much room do you have in your case.... the most effective air cooled replacement HSFs are pretty big! :)

I'd just stick with changing the cas for now.

I found that I could clock my mem a lot higher @ (2t), but the performance between a really high mem clock @ (2t) vrs a lower mem clock @ (1t) was virtually the same.

I only mentioned it in case it was holding back your OC, but I'd advise against pushing your chip more until you get better cooling.

(Actually... if you're going to leave it as is or drop it for now, you're probably doing fine with the settings you've got).

Probably a good time for some stress testing to ensure that it's stable.

If it's stable at the settings you've got, you can try dropping the VID down a bit to see if it's stable at a lower voltage. That should bring your temps down a bit.

Sweet, you got an E6 stepping, those usually clock higher than E3s!

Seems like sswilson was right on about the memory speed

What's up next ? Anything else you need to know ?

doh!! had cpu voltage @ 1.52 dropped it to 1.42 @ current ambient ,temps are 44-46 c in game.

Running some kind of a Prime95 (not sure what it means )over night guess I should post result tomorrow ?

Prime95 was one of the original "distributed computing" programs like seti@home and folding@home.

It's also got a setting for a "torture test" which will drive your temps up and put as much stress as possible on your cpu.

I usually run for over 10 hrs to test for stability. (Some folks think that anything over an hour is overkill, but I have seen a failure show up after 8 hours)
