So keeping the HT between 800 and 1000 is a general rule even for dual core?

I believe so.

Any of the testing I've seen has also shown that there is no real performance hit to being low (within reason) so there is no reason not to keep it on the low side of 1000 to ensure stability.

Thanks Barbrbarossa for the link. I got to the first sentence dude says" Um, let's see. Drop the memory clock divider, so the memory is not a limit.Raise the FSB (CPU clock). Salt to taste" Dropped ram from ddr400 to ddr333 , upped fsb/htt? thing to 245 added a little voltage loaded and played battlefield 2 no problem ,cpu @ 2.45 gig, upped voltage to 1.52 & tried for for 2.5 no go. So thats cool, what should I do next? Still me to go eh ?

I've found for A64 oc'ing that OC's (not completely over the top ones) where a full cmos reset is required usually point to a mem problem.

The 3200's mem controller is not the strongest of the batch, and it could be that you're taxing it by trying to run 2X1 gig @ (1t).

First thing I'd do is drop down to (2t) and use a mem divider to keep your mem below it's rated speed (is it 3200/ddr400 or 4000/ddr500?).

From this point, ensure that you have any spread spectrums turned off in bios, and keep your HT between 800 & 1000.

With any luck, you should be able to push at least an extra 300 out of the proc without needing to increase your VID (proc voltage).

(If we're going to continue this attempt to bump that chip up, it'd be a lot easier if you put your system specs into a sig so that we don't have to hunt for your hardware.... :) ).

Oh BTW.... welcome to Hardware Canucks!!!!
Thanks man & Madrach as you can see from the other message systems stable at 2.45 I'd like to aim for 2.6 ish ,had to lower ram some ,did I loose over all or gain?

What's the multiplier on that chip?

245 isn't an "uber" OC, but it's not a bad one either (20%) for running 2 gig.

Did you try dropping the mem down to (2t)? You can also try running on just one stick of mem to see if it is the mem controller that is holding you back.

I ran several S754 Semprons that would do HTT of 270 no problem with 2X512, but gagged on anything above 240 with 2X1Gig.

You'd do yourself a favour by installing a couple of stress testers for stability (prime95 & SuperPi are a couple I use, and 3dmark`03 does a pretty good job of testing stability as well).

Some temp monitoring software (speedfan) would help too.

Only way to know is to run benchmarks, and even those results are questionable as they are mostly synthetic.

Nope, just saving myself the trouble of looking it up.... :)

So as it stands, you're running 2450 vice 2000, that's a pretty good start.... :)

Do you have cpu-z installed? That's probably the standard for A64 overclocking reference.

It'll give you your cpu speed, mem clocks, and also your HT.

These are the main settings we need to get a look at. (the mem settings wouldn't hurt either so that we can compare them to the stock settings suggested by OCZ).
