Default Blast from the Past overclocking!

Well I was digging through my CPU pile and came across an old Celeron E1400 and a Pentium 2140. I remembered that I have this old Asus P5E WS Pro X38 board that has 2 dead RAM slots that I had been using as a bit of a server a while back but lately it has been sitting on a shelf. So I figure why not mess around with it and see what these little CPU's can handle!

First up will be the E1400. I spent some time today lapping the CPU with 150, 350, 600, and 1500 grit sandpaper. Came out nice and shiny (Sorry no pic's because I was in a rush to get the thing slapped together!). I had this old Ultra Chilltec laying around that I've had since around 2007 which was absolutely terrible in its stock form. So I sandwitched it between my CPU and a Corsair H100 that was also laying around lol! I had to fab up a 12v source, not difficult at all. Just tied it into a molex fan adapter.

Anyway, back to the overclocking. This little E1400 is a 2.0ghz 800MHZ FSB chip at stock. By some form of magic, it can handle 1700MHZ FSB.... this is rediculous! Also.... the CPU cooling seems to be doing it's job VERY well. So I am currently at 3.4GHZ, 1700MHZ FSB. I have tried 1600MHZ FSB and 9x multi (3.6GHZ) but it does not like it, I've pushed to 1.55V Vcore but havent hit a stable setting yet. I'm going to see how far I can push this FSB!

Sorry for the crappy pics, terrible lighting at home... and the benching PC is offline so I had to snap a pic.

No more updates tonight, but might push more tomorrow and over the weekend. I'm also looking forward to see if I can hit a 100% OC on the E2140!

Oh, and I also just ordered a E5800 on ebay... $12 shipped. That puppy should be a fun one too!

Nice! Sounds like fun. Pushing stuff to (or past) the limit with no concerns (you probably dont care if that $5 CPU bites the dust).

Enjoy!

I tried 3.6GHZ last night but it wasn't very happy with that. I think I am going to push for the maximum FSB by dropping to 7x CPU multi, and go from there. 1800FSB is my goal, I'm interested to see if it can make it!

Oh wow, ok hit a max of 78c. I am thinking that the little 50W TEC is at this point possibly being over powered and may actually be acting as a hindrance to my performance. Definitely going to keep this voltage setting as my max now and just see what it can push the CPU core to.

You're having better luck with that than you did with your E1200.

e1xxx / e2xxx OC thread

I never hit the 3400 mark with my E1200 (Nor quite reach 1700 FSB) but did get the coveted 100%+ OC. :)

MacJunky's E1200 clockin'&shockin'

They were cheap and great fun to play with, but amazingly could also be made prime stable at those kinds of OCs. :)
