Question about safe max voltage
 
I've got a Core 2 Duo E7500 Wolfdale hooked up to an Asus P5Q deluxe. The maximum safe voltage is 1.45, however the CPU only hits 60 degrees celcius at this voltage under full load running at 4.1GHz. (2.93 stock). Still 50 or so degrees lower than the TJMax, am I safe to increase the voltage to get more speed or am I risking the safety of the chip?

Overclocking with high amounts of voltage can potentially reduce the lifespan of the chip over time and maybe even the lifespan of the motherboard (since it will have to work harder as well). If Temps are ok, then there is no reason why you cannot push it a bit further, just understand that you can reduce the chips' lifespan the harder you push it. If you are doing something very cpu intensive, like folding for example, where the cpu is at 100% load 24/7, then there may be an issue, but for just regular use it should be ok. If the chip dies it will be long after you upgrade your system.

I'm trying to maximize the folding on the older chip... I don't want to shorten the lifespan because I may sell the computer as a whole. I'll just leave it where it is unless I decide I'm not going to sell it! Thanks !! :)

just to understand what is the correlation of increased current to lifespan, consider this : a 5% increase in current will decrease lifespan by 50%! And this is something proven in the field, so do it at your own risk.
