i7 3770 wow they overclock but damn they get hot!!!
 

So in my new rig there is a i7 3770k with a Intel LGA2011 watercooler on it.

On stock it jumps all over the map with temps around 32-55 in games but when I OCed it 1.40V Core 50x 5Ghz it runs completely stable I can feel the rad and its cold but the temps jump from 42-72 at random :S.

Going to push the CPU farther but should I delid it and put some good silver in there or is it just reading the temps wrong :S??

Is it throttling down at those speeds? Those IB chips will get some hot when you push them past 1.3V &/or 4.6GHz. Are you running it at those speeds under prime95? 72 degrees is damn good if you are.

I'll try prime 95 tonight, as well as tweak with it a bit more :)

Do the cores have a large spread in temperature difference? If so you might want to delid it as it can bring them all within the same range. I been really wanting to get my hands on one to delid :P.

1.4v on Ivy... is that okay? I am VERY curious to see what your prime temps are like.

1.4V at x50 was what MSI recommended for the board and its fully stable but the heat is throwing me off. Tonight I dont think I will be toying with it as I already turned on my Server so I will just use it haha.

Tomorrow I will make time to mod the MSI MPOWER some more see if more fans and maybe a better fan controller will help things out a little :)

ok sounds good. For winter I run my 2600K at 4.8 with 1.4v. Temps though are really good at that vcore and speed.

awesome, I found my cpu super stable at 5ghz so I wanna hit 5.5 or even the dream number of 6ghz, I hit 5.4ghz last night but those temps are scaring me.

Ivy bridge is brutal for heat. Unfortunately Intel didn't solder the IHS on like they have in the past. They decided to thermal paste and glue it on, and the smaller die is causing higher temps. My 3570k under full load is at about 55 degrees celcius at stock speeds. It goes up to about 60 degrees at 4.2GHz and ~ 1.2 volts. at 4.5GHz and 1.3 volts it spikes to 73 degrees celcius which I'm not comfortable with. I leave it at 4.2 most of the time because I don't want it running that hot. I'm running the Cooler Master EVO 212 in a push/pull configuration btw.
