TO those contemplating IHS removal on Ivy...
Look for a product called "Solvoplast". It is a bandage adhesive removal agent sold in drug stores and turns the adhesive on the IHS that binds it to the chip really soft, allowing you to easily cut through it and minimize damage to the core.
I used it allot back in my K7 days. I would stick the chip upside down in just enough to cover the adhesive in a tupperware container and put the lid on for 24 hours, then grab a double edge razor and I would be done 30 seconds later. Would be 10 seconds but I would take my time :)
With the temp issues with ivy and so much chatter about de-lidding, I thought I would bring this up again.
Sounds like someone is volunteering to delid hot off the press IB?
Hopped on the X79 Express a few weeks ago:bananafunky:
Just remembered how well this stuff worked, so I thought I would pass my experience on. I de-lidded about 15 K7's and the only core I damaged was from a clip mount aircooler.
had a guy delid one on my benching team .. it worked good "cooler" on air but they had some throttling issues on ln2 for some reason even with a full pot.
interesting, never heard of this product. too bad i didnt upgrade to the 3770k
Half year super necro bump
But has anybody used this to help delid? I don't think I trust myself enough with just a razor blade to delid my 3770k
Wish I had known about this product before I delidded a few 3770k. My index finger would have thanked me.
Yeah I agree... My fingers wouldve thanked me on the 3570k I delidded for a friend a few weeks ago... oh well, at least we know now!
