Overclocking i5-2500k in an Intel DP67BG Extreme MB
As some of you would know, I recently build a new system and put an Asus P8P67-M MicroATX motherboard in it. Well I had the chance to travel to Costa Rica and a friend recommended that I buy one of Intel's Extreme series motherboards for the 1155 socket. He said Intel boards were some of the best in terms of durability and so I bought one I saw for sale in a PC shop in the city of Alajuela. The thing is, I too have heard of great things about Intel motherboards in terms of quality but now I realize that overclocking is not one of these features. The Extreme Tuning Utility( XTU) that one can download from Intel for this purpose is not the easiest application to use for a noob like myself to say the least:sad: Also, I have been advised to do the overclocking from the BIOS itself and not from the XTU app.
I wanted to know if there is a simple, step by step guide to OC 2500Ks to 4.0 Ghz for people like myself using the DP67BG board BIOS, using as little voltage as possible and nothing more. I do not want to OC any higher. This is plenty and do not seek to test boundries or anything like that. I am using the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, MX-4 Artic Cooling and a 750W XFX Core Edition Pro PSU. I have 2 Caviar blue HDDs, one DVD unit and a Radeon HD 6870 GFX card.
I would greatly appreciate detailed suggestions

Guys.....I realize this might sound incredibly trivial to seasoned veterans like many of you here, but I am a noob when it comes to OC, specially when there is no user friendly interface like in the case of this particular MB but some help would be greatly appreciated..

See chapter 3.5 of said document and start there. 4.0GHz should be doable with a Hyper 212 depending on how much fan noise you're willing to tolerate.

Well, I ended up testing a few experimental configurations that came with the upgrade to the newer 2040 DP67BG bios( the one my mb came with was the 9100). The upgrade included a new "overclocking assistant" option to the performance tab that automatically overclocks the system to a number of preset speeds. I tried the one that increases clock speeds to 4GHz and, while it remained stable for a couple of hours, the amount of heat it was generating was just too much for my taste( low to mid 70s). I used the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and the MX-4 Artic Cooling thermal compound but apparently that wasn't enough to keep my temps under 70. My case's airflow might not be the best either ( I am using the EZCOOL A-180) but ultimately I don't know why my processor produced so much heat for what is generally considered a very mild overclock. The other thing is ambient temperatures in the country I live have been through the roof lately, with a great deal of heat and humidity throughout the day and the place I live at does not have air conditioning.
Do you have any advice as to what I could do to reach 4ghz and keep my temps to at least mid to high sixties?

What are your temps at stock? Idle and Load please (your cooler is different then me and you mentioned your air flow)
I have a HAF 922 & Corsair H70 on it. My airflow is good I'll post my stock temps tonight too so we can both start from there. I'm very new to overclocking as well (i have a post about my 2700k and sabertooth which nobody has responded too yet lol).
Anyway one thing I do know from reading is everyone says to never let any mobo do the auto overclock. Its much better when we have control of whats going on to keep the voltages and temperatures in check.
Hopefully you and I can get these easily to 4.5 (mine was at this when a buddy oc'ed it for me but then I switched to this mobo (was in a P8P67 Pro originally which is now home for my 2nd 2700K lol).
oh my idle temps are somewhere in the mid-forties. When the processor starts working is when the heat really goes up
The mid 40's is that stock or is that with your overclock?
