Intel Core I7-3820 Overclocking

Just wanted to share some of my overclocking experiences with anyone who may be trying to overclock their 3820 or who may get one in the future.

I was finally able to get my system stable yesterday with a 4.625GHz overclock. I am using a corsair H80 for cooling. I also have all 8 dimms filled with Corsair 4GB Sticks for a total of 32GB of vengeance ram rated for 1600MHz. I am using an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme X79 motherboard in my system.
The Vcore is set to 1.36 but on load it will bump it up to 1.376. Ran Prim 95 on Each Setting for 12 hours to make sure this overclock was stable.

Whoa! Does the 2011 CPUs always get that hot?

May have to reconsider my build if true since my place gets REALLY hot in the summer.

When its been running Prime 95 for 24 hours it does lol. First 2 hours of prime 95 it was at 72 max. Generally I Idle around 35-38 and hit mid 40's when I'm gaming. The Last 6 or so hours it was jumping up to 80 for a little bit. My corsair fans were on medium as well though after I set it to high it brought the max back down to 72-75.

Watch your VTT. There has been some chatter about rapid degradation when using VTT above 1.2v. This is on c2 revision 3930k chips. But until we get some more information, it's best to be cautious.

I have easily overclocked my i7-3820 to 4.625 gHz with the settings you have listed but my CPU temp never exceeds 40 degrees celsius. I too have the Corsair H80 with fans on High. My idle temp is 24 degrees. I am using the Corsair 600T case (200mm fans front and top) but have gone with CoolerMaster Excalibur fans on the H80. Using 4 sticks of Corsair memory at 1600mHz. I love this CPU; I waited 9 weeks for the i7-3930 but never could find one anywhere. I was disappointed at first to have to settle for this chip. Now I am very surprised at its performance for almost half the $$$

Not sure how you managed that, I have a friend who overclocked his to 4.625 on a 480 Rad water cooling loop and still saw around 64 full load. He was also able to do it with less voltage.

Hmm considering almost all of the reviews I read had stock temperatures higher than 50 degrees celsius with the Intel RTS2011LC which is almost identical to the H80. I am going to call BS on your temps of 40 degrees with an overclocked i7-3820 using an H80. That is unless you somehow got a magic 3820! Or maybe you have a -30 degrees ambient temperature.

wow an overclock of 1.3 vcore and above and you say 40c that a miracle and i must run out and buy a socket 2011 that's an unheard of temp hell i idle at 40c loads not high even at 65c and that's on an i7 2600k and i5 2500k's and core temps under 80c are fine that core not even close to dangerous my2cents
