Default OCN Gauging Interest - Large Canada Day LAN and OCing Event - Toronto

I just thought I would post this here as some may not frequent OCN often, but would be interested in coming out to experience such an event.

They are trying to gauge interest to see if this is something that could be put together. If you are interested, please let them know and help make such an event possible! I will be attending and a few others have already confirmed that they would as well.

$10,000 Prizing | Interest in Large Canada Day LAN and OCing Event - Toronto?

Quote:
Overclock.net is looking to throw a large event this year in Canada.*Whether you game or benchmark, we want to have something there for you.

This will not be your normal event. We would be holding it at a very cool downtown Toronto venue.*
  • Cost would be free to come. You have to bring your own gear.
  • We are thinking of having it on either*June 30th (Saturday) or July 1st (Sunday).
  • Doors would most likely open at 10am and the event would run through to 2am.
  • All ages (but alcohol would be served to those who are legal drinking age)
  • Event would be livecast
  • Prizes would be available ($10,000 we are thinking)
  • Learn from pros / bench with pros
  • Compete to be the King*of the LAN

Please post in this thread if you would be interested in coming to such an event. We are really trying to figure out some numbers before we finalize things. We are ideally looking for 150 people :) We need some indication enough people can make the trip / will be around that weekend.

The goal is to have one of the best events the industry has seen in Toronto - then do these elsewhere around the world. Vegas would be on our future consideration list for sure ;)

Thanks!

Sounds like a cool day, and if I was anywhere near Toronto, I would definitely be interested. Too bad these things never come to the prairies.

Let me know about Vegas... I need a vacation. I would be down for Toronto but even though Newmarket is my home base I think it would be easier for me to get to vegas with my rig lol (school in Thunder Bay)

While this sounds like a great event I don't think hauling my 50lbs computer would be that easy. Will there be any console gaming? Would be quite easy to throw my 360 into my backpack. If not I'd still swing by if I can to check out other people's rigs.

Yeah, my system is close to 65lbs filled with coolant and a little too expensive to be let out of sight an my monitors are immobile on a triple vesa mount. Might be interested in going to hang and have a few brews, but not bringing the gear to compete.

I really should scrape together a micro-atx gaming rig for lans.

I haven't weighed mine, but I have a feeling is in that upper range as well. I'm tempted to build a small LAN box myself and I might just do that. At an event like this, I am a bit more leery about leaving my gear but perhaps I could switch off with someone as I know I want to take part/observe the overclocking scene for quite some time as well.

I'd probably attend but need more info such as what all they are doing gaming wise etc... I'm not much of an OCer myself but thankfully I have a few friends near my home and then you guys to rely on if need be :)

Jibz if you go we could carpool!
