My System Specs

Default ok just some folks thought on the max vcore stuff i5/i7

Well hi to all you overclockers i was just fine tuning some of my overclocks and i have some new kit i5 2500k and a maximus extreme-z board which i love.

Now after playing a bit i have noticed that this great little chip i have will boot into windows @5.0ghz with a 50x muliti so my question is what do folks think about the buzz in the web that max vcore for sandybridge is 1.52 ???.

I myself think this is crazy high but after going upwards of 1.4 i haven't noticed a huge increase in temps at all and that only on air. Now i have been overclocking for many years now every since the pentium4/athlon days so i do know what i am doing cause i have a bad habit of buying every socket out there lmao.

So i guess my other question is also why was it not a good idea going above 1.45 on 45nm but it's ok on 32nm and yes i understand Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaElectromigration

Personally I always stopped myself at 1.4 since the first day of 775. CPU use the same power ( 95W ) and are printed smaller ( 22nm ) so I don't see why all of a sudden they would be able to take up to 1.5. What would make sense ( and what I have read most of time ) is that 1.4 is the max and 1.52 is the absolute max ( suicide run ).

Meh - almost all my chips have seen 1.69v at one time or another. So far, they've all lived to tell the tale.

I went 1.5V with a Phenom 9950 - the motherboard failed first though (Asus M3A78-T with 4-phase regulators). Half-failed board is currently running a dual core in my bro's computer as I didn't want to take all the steps to RMA it.

+1

agreed, though i went looking for the wight paper for the i5 2500k and didn't find it, but your statement sounds about right

though i did do some research on the topic and best i can tell its just like the older cpus from Intel meaning 1.4v
