Well I'm a lazy, lazy man, and I've already exceeded my budget for my pc by almost $100. Another $50 is hard to swallow, especailly since it will most likely be $60-$70 after tax.

I've already posted at GA-P35-DS3L OC Time!, so if you can answer my questions and recommend a HSF for me I'm all ears. I'm just looking to hit 3.0Ghz, not crazy high.

I'm thinking about taking my new Q6600 to no more than 3.0GHz. Will this require a new Northbridge heatsink as well? Will I need more case fans?

Thanks for the info - but your HSF is about $75... the OP is looking in the range of $50.

Uhhh...how about the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B? Although I personally needed to take the mobo out...but u potentially don't need to as it just uses push-pins

I don't think you need a better HSF. This is a screen shot of my X3210 quad that has been folding the last few days. Nice and stable at 3.2GHZ and temps while 90% CPU load folding are below 70. The 74 that shows as the max in HWMonitor was when I was running Prime95 for more than a day. I'm using an intel stock cooler!

what is your vcore at 3.2GHz? Did you need to up the northbridge voltage as well? pci-e, etc?

I read that some people can do 2.9GHz on stock voltages with the q6600. When did you need to start stepping up voltages?

I am running it at 1.275V, just slightly above stock of 1.225. My chipset voltages are all set to Auto with no issues.

I was able to OC my Q6600 to 3.5Ghz on an Asus P5K with a zalman 9500 and only auto settings. You really dont need to know or do anything fancy with these chips to get them to go that fast, just up the FSB and keep an eye on the temps. With your board and a lesser HSF you shouldnt have to do much of anything to get it to your max temps, just fsb adjustment. Be sure to use a software temp monitor that will correctly display your temps though, coretemp does a good job, but there are alot out there that will read it 15 C cooler than it actually is.
