Default Is this good overclocking for i5 2500K?

Hey guys,

Well, I just took my i5 2500K to 4.5 GHZ. I am using the Zalman CPNS10X quite cooler. All I did was increase the multipliers to 45. Didn't touch anything else. I ran prime 95 for 10 minutes. And never got any errors and The CPU reached 50 C.

Some say you need to run it 12 hours, some say 24 hours. 10 minutes is definitely not enough. I have had BSOD's 5+ hours into prime95. Some boards and chips will do a steady clock to 4.5 with just the multiplier though. :)

Btw what are you using to check your temps?

Yup, I've had it crash after 5-6 hours also. You don't see peak temps until 30-40 minutes into it.

For the overclocks I do for my clients it's a minimum 24hr prime95

I've had many fail between 5 to 8 hours.

Honestly it probably is stable just because 4.5 ghz is pretty easy on an i5 2500k, not many people are unlucky enough to have a chip worse than that but you really should run prime 95 at the very least all night while you sleep.

Anyways time for some real world testing on BF3
