Hi Supergrover,

For you as a gamer, I see exactly what you are saying.
For me, as I do not game at all, it is not necessary for me to have clocks above 3700, as that is the minimum for the -bigadv to fully function, points wise.

Take care......

Hi all,

OK, I answered my own question, with a little more investigation.

When I take my 3066 MHZ CPU six core Xeon and O/C it to 3700 to meet the requirements of the -bigadv, the PPD or times per frame are not too great a difference.

I have O/C'd my CPU to 4005, and the difference is major.

Conclusion, O/C the hell out of it, who cares, and as was once wisely stated, "Cause I can!!"

Take care, and O/C away......

Glad to hear you went big or went home ;)

You're right that the Overclock doesnt scale well. However, a TPF of a couple seconds is probably not that big a deal because you're just inside the deadline with your projects at 3.7ghz. The points value for F@H bigadv units is not linear, so even a couple seconds per frame can add up quite quickly in PPD totals.

Besides, the likelyhood is any 'damage' you're doing to shorten the life of your Xeon probably wont matter in the scope of how long you'll actually use the computer functionally. Ive never heard of anyone on these forums having a CPU burn out off overclocking that could be confirmed it was because of the OC and not a bad chip that needed RMA anyways..
