Question Need help OC'ing e6750 on an Asus P5K

Hey everyone, I am a new user at hardware Canucks and I would like to find out some information on how to OC my e6750 on my Asus P5K P35 motherboard. I have a couple questions.

Is the Asus P5K motherboard good for OC'ing?
If so, what benchmarks show its OC performance?
Does The e6750 OC better than the e6700?
If so, what benchmarks show its OC performance?
what steps do I have to follow in order to have a successful overclock?
ex. what features to disable.

I believe my cooling is sufficient. Running a CM hyper6+ 100mm with another 120mm exhaust fan and 80mm intake/ 80mm psu exhaust. Right now I am getting readings from Speedfan saying the temps are:

On idle (without speedstep/C1E)
Core 0: 13C
Core 1: 13C
CPU: 17C
system: 35C
vcore: 1.29v

Full load running dual prime 95 for one hour:
Core 0: 33C
Core 1: 33C
CPU: 35C
System 35C
vcore: 1.29v

I think I have a desent cooling setup. processor stays incredibly cool even after 1 hour of dual prime95. I think I have a winner here :)

I will have screenshots etc later.
thanks for reading :)

I've got a p5k deluxe and i can tell you from my experience its been a very good board for OC i've been pretty impressed with the results of my rig and there are only a few voltage options that i've seen on other people's posts that it doesnt have.

On all "auto" settings, changing only the fsb speed i overclocked my 2.4ghz Q6600 to 3.5 on air with a zalman 9500 cooler, after 3.5 though i had to adjust the voltage settings manually, also i would recommend that you lock your memory at 1:1 and your pci bus at 100, and turn off all the features for the cpu before you start OCing.

I wont give you any more advice than that for overclocking though because to be honest, i'm still too new at myself to be giving advice.

As for benchmarks though, there are many, myself i use futuremark for the gpu/cpu superpi and everest for the ram.

Another thing your going to hear alot of too, is above all else watch your temps, regardless of wether or not your cpu will overclock more, once you go over your max temp while running orthos or prime your going to damage your chip with the heat so you'll either have to try and drop the vcore to get higher while staying cooler, get a differant cooling solution or call it good enough.

Theres a good guide here to get you started for your board.
http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...s-p5k-add.html

Once you break 425FSB bump the NB volts to 1.4 or higher and keep the cpu pll volts to 1.5

Overclocking Guides

there's a thread to a collection of guides- there are no p5k's there, but alot of the settings and the things you need to disable are fairly universal- check out some of the general guides. enjoy and welcome to the forum- keep us posted on your efforts.

Use CoreTemp 0.96 for your temperatures! Much better than Speedfan!

I would like to say thanks for all the replies and links. I will definatly look into it and post some validated ss's of my OC. So far I have not oced it yet. but from my understanding it should be alot easier to OC this than my old 3700+ (I got that up to 2.6ghz, unfortunatly unstable) I have one more question to add. what about my PCI bus speed. scince I am running a Creative X-FI extreme music sound card, I dont want my OC to mess with it.

when I used speedfan and CPU-Z, my vcore was the same on both programs. I might be upgrading my ram, video card, and case to better suit a Good OC. So far im looking at:

Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

although I cannot purchase those at newegg, I will be going to the US to pick up those specific parts

Ok, I just ran 3dmark06. My score is 8951 3DMarks. To me, on my system, seems ok. condsidering my CPU is only at 2.66ghz stock. With the OC I should get around 10K with my 8800GTS 320.
