Default 8800gtx - any point to OC?

I thought I would try ATI-Tool since it could auto-detect settings.

It crashed.

I tried an OC myself, barely anything @ 615/915. My computer restarted (BSOD).

I can't find a guide that shows me how I should go about OC'ing my GPU. I get to sites that say "hey, look at my great FPS at these speeds!!! I am 1337!"

I figure now that my CPU has been OC'd and works fine, I might as well give my GPU a push - or is it worth it? I can run Crysis on max with AAx4 with no stutters, so I don't know if I should bother (it's running on the stock BFG oc of 600/900).

Thoughts/comments are appreciated.

i suggest riva tuner. its pretty easy to use, and you can use it to ramp up your fan speeds too. im using it for my 8800gtx and im a little over ultra speeds now with stock cooling (and my fans set to 100%).

heres a very quick guide. i cant recommend jumping to the settings in the pics, but we have the same card (mines xfx) so you should be to. the smart way is to creep it up a little at a time and test it heavily. at these settings mine still isnt at its limit. i creep things up a bit then use/stress them for a few days/week and watch for signs of trouble (artifacts, crashing, temps). so far so good.

good luck, feel free to post any more questions, im sure me, or someone, else will be glad to help

Default yeah get rivatuner

You should be able to go to 626/1000RAM without many problems if you adjust the fan with rivatuner. Thats what I use, but Ive also got an antec fancard blowing directly over the heatsink.
