Default BFG 8800GTS 512mb OC helo

I'm running the BFG 8800GTS 512mb and the stock fan speed is set at 29% and runs at 49C idle.

stock speeds:
core:675Mhz
Memory bus: 972Mhz

as soon as I try and OC 750+ on the core and 1000+ on the memory 3dmark crashes and my temps are only at 55C. I tried setting the fan speed manual to 50% if I go higher it's too loud. Arn't these fans supose to ajust themself as the GPU gets hotter? And why can't I OC. I head these cards are good for OCing

I've used ATItools and Ntune. if I use any other software if says that the software has not been tested with my version of display driver. I'm using the latest off Nvidia

First off, are you going right to 750+ or going up incrementally? Try going up at 5 mhz at a time.
It may not be your GPU but your memory. I had a 7800GTX that would OC on the core beautifully but the memory had very little headroom.

i'm going up little by little. if i do memory only i can do 1080 no problem its the core giving me issues i think... But i heard that the 8800GTS 512mb should auto ajust the fan speeds. Mine isn't I have to set it to what I want it at

First of all...I would OC your card by using Rivatuner! Is very easy to use and never gives me issues......that warning is a 'just in case' warning! When your OC'ing for records, set your fan at 100% to keep it coolest! If your RAM goes up to 1080MHz(tested?)...I suggest you lower it one step and then go fiddling with the core speeds! If 750MHz doesn't work...go a little lower....so what speeds you can reach.....

Unfortunately not all cards go as fast as others.....You might be one of the unlucky ones.....BUT test it first before you jump to that conclusion....

But my temps are staying really low why does 3dmark crash. And when playing Crysis I get artifacts even at STOCK speeds if i dont turn up the fan

Did you check BFG for a bios flash?

Sounds to me like an issue with the bios not ramping up with heat load.... If that doesn't do the trick you can use one of the vid card programs (like riva tuner) to change the temperature at which the fan ramps up....

50C at load with only 29% fan speed could also be an issue with the temperature probe, it's awfully low!!!

Not good. It's RMA time.
