Default temp. monitoring utilities and e2180

hi

so i've overclocked my e2180 to 3.0ghz on 1.3000V (stock) on a Gigabyte DS3L rev 2.0 with a Scythe Ninja cooler. Everything seems stable, although I havent ran a long stress test yet. I was wondering what is the most accurate program to measure cpu temperatures? it seems that people trust Core Temp, but coretemp consistently reports temperatures ~15 C higher than every other program i've tried (Intel TAT, PC Wizard '08, Sandra, Speedfan, BIOS/Easytune). At full load (orthos) after about 10-15 minutes my overclocked temperatures reach 60-65C according to Coretemp (higher if TAT is used to stress), in the other programs they wont go above 50. At first I thought that this was due to the heat sink mounting mechanism (no backplate, so the contact between base and cpu could be not strong enough) but i ruled that out by checking the temperatures when the case was on its side and applying pressure to the cooler. so now I have my doubts about Coretemp. Should I trust it? Or can I go farther with my overclock?
Thanks

I would like to know too, same board, same cpu.

Oh and I hate you because mine wont even go past 2.4ghz on stock voltage (which is 1.325 btw, so you are getting that off an undervolt, argh)

Do trust Core Temp. And nothing else. Run SuperPi 1M, dual 32M and Orthos Blend for 12 hours for stability. Check those temps - 65C is the max I would allow under Air.

Im salty about my 2180

mine is at 62*C on 1.41 volts at 2.85ghz so yours may be a bit toasty for undervolting....

charlie do you think its a heatsink mounting issue then? I mean ninja is pretty big and should be able to handle stock voltages better than this...

I think it's just the fact that it's running at 3.0GHz. Is it stable - have you tested the chip? If so, I would say you have a Golden Chip...

Make sure it is the latest CoreTemp:
Get it here: Core Temp

It could be that you have an old version which doesn't report the temperatures properly. If you have the latest, then trust it.

3.0GHz on stock voltage is pretty nice IMO, although those temperatures are a bit high (assuming it's right).
Maybe you could improve your case airflow? Perhaps post some pictures of your system.

If you have an M0 stepping, ensure that you are using CoreTemp 0.96. There is also HWMonitor on cpuid.com which I love. Its my new tool of choice, though coretemp still kicks.

all e2180's are M0 stepping.

but obviously some are "extra wicked" M0 stepping

thanks for the replies guys. here's a pic of my case, I think the air flow is pretty good, the top exaust is basically right over the heatsink so its almost as if I have the Ninja with push/pull fan setup.
So even at stock, 2000mhz and idle, CT reports 44/40C CPU temperatures. HW Monitor reports 29/25. CT temperatures are kinda warm for idle methinks, especially for such a big cooler, so I think its either a mounting issue or Coretemp is reporting incorrectly, because every other program that also supposedly reads the on-die digital sensors (TAT, HW monitor) reports much lower temps. May be I need to switch in the stock intel sink and see how it does in comparison?
