Low Vantage Score...

Hey,

I have had this system for about a year and a half and recently build a new system for someone and benchmarked it and decided to benchmark mine just for the sake of it and realized that my score seems to be fairly low.

Is there anything I could do, wrong bios settings perhaps? Because it looks like the i7 should perform a lot better than this according to different 3dmark benchmarks I saw. I know that the 4870 is not that good anymore, and I will upgrade when th 6xxxx comes out but other than upgrading my GPU, what's wrong with my system?

That score is perfectly fine for a HD4870...

My HD4890 w/ Core 2 Quad was about the same:

And your CPU score is perfectly fine too, here's my i7 920:

So really, nothing to worry about. It's all good.

If you have an aftermarket cpu cooler, I suggest you overclock your cpu and push it towards 4GHz.

Yeah I have the xigmatek hdt-s1283

I recently bumped it to ~3.4 GHz, I might just push it higher for the sake of it.

And also, the new build I built recently scored

CPU: 31483
GPU: 12011
Total: P14208

How come that a Phenom II x2 550 (90$) scores 50% higher than a i7 920 (350$) ?

You used a GTX460 right? It has PhysX support which Vantage uses and thus skews the score a ton. Re-run Vantage, but go into the options and uncheck PPU or open the NVIDIA Control Panel and disable PhysX.

Once that's off, I'm sure it'll score quite a bit less.

fjanicki August 22, 2010 10:27 AM

Oh I see, I'll try that when I go back to his place eventually.

You should be able to run that I7 @ 3.8 Ghz without much effort at all. Bump it up man....

but that score is fine for 4870 i have one
