the oc helped the defective psu on its way out. that or you have poor/no power protection and it died saving your other components :)

IIRC They use seagate's PSU's... which I believe is kinda good.

XFX PSU's = pimped Seagates psu's..

Well, no matter the brand there are always some defective units. That is just the way it works.
RMA and try again.

Thanks for all of your input, but my dad had chosen not to trust a heap of people ramdoms on the internet and says he will bring up the matter with an IT guy at his work. With any luck the guy will tell him the same thing that many of you have, that it wasn't the OC but a faulty power supply. I'm probably looking at being aloud to do a mild OC probably 3.2 or .4.

Tanks for your replys,

Typical... Rather talk to an IT guy that does tech work for a living than actually listen to people that do this for a hobby. Hell, that IT guy probably has no idea what an overclock is We who do this for a hobby can give any IT guy a run for his money...

ITMan: Ovarclewking are teh bads, it are maek u sterile.
Dad: Yar, I not let disappoint son bugger wif mah PC annehmoor.
ITMac: Soonds leik a plan, haev nice day.
Dad: U tuu ITMan, thunks.

LOL...Typical yup. My old man swears by these IT dudes that often just swap cards until they fix the computer...

Also, that XFX 750 watts PSU that blew up...reminds me of OC3D's review on the XFX 850 watts...(which I own...)

Overclock3D :: Review :: XFX Black Edition 850w ATX PSU :: Simulated Load Testing

BANG! Hope mine is not defective also! OC3D's situation is that he overloaded the PSU, so it seems to be different. We might end up seeing a pattern?

I think he did 970W on that PSU if I remember correctly. WAYYY over what you would normally even attempt to pull. Some may argue that it should have overload protection but I don't think it's that important considering 99% of people never have that powerful hardware. I must admit however it is a bit baffling that they didnt include it on such a high end psu. Then again...they did just use a solder bridge to make it a single rail...
