Default E8400 with GA-EP45-UD3P Help 4.0 OC

Can someone please lead me through my bios settings for reaching 4.0Ghz with my E8400.

I already did 3.6 by changing my FSB to 400 and multiplier 9, 'PCI Express bus' frequency to 100MHz and memory multi to 2.0b

I know I need to raise voltages when attempting to reach 4.0 but with all the options in the bios im not sure which exactly I need to change.

Can someone please tell me EXACTLY which options to change (with their correct names, not short hand or common names. The names they are in my bios) to test initially.

I think Im supposed to up the voltage and then get it stable and start taking a tick off till it is no longer stable to find my lowest working voltage.

Also on 3.6 my idle temp is 29 and my load temp is 50.

I would follow the below guide. I take no credit for these settings.

If your only using 2 sticks of ram 1.2V on NB should be fine.

Thanks for that,

it all seems pretty straight forward except I am running 8gb of ram so if anyone can tell me the settings I would change because of that.

Also the big one I was wondering about seems to be the most unclear in that list

"CPU Vcore….……….........................:1.25-1.36 Actual not bios settings (All up to your chip)"

So what do I go with... or do i just start at 1.25 and keep goign up till Im stable or do I start at 1.36 and work down till im not stable... whats better for my system.... not crashing and more volts or crashing a few times but low volts?

and whats your E0 Core VID?

You can find that out by opening Coretemp!

The VID is 1.1000v and here is what I have so far... just about to run Prime95
CPU-Z Validator 3.1

Ive been running Prime95 for about 3 hours and now in Coretemp my VID is showing as 1.2750v

What is this VID thing anyways.

I see some stuff about setting priority with Prime95 for doing my stability tests but I dont seem to have that option. Is that a older function of Prime95? Do I need to set priority in task manager for a proper test or...

As long as your CPU voltage is under 1.365v you should be fine for long term usage. Provide you have proper cooling!

Just let Prime95 do its thing.

As for me if i am just overclocking CPU i just stress it small TFT for about 2-4 hours and watch its temps. If temps stay within acceptable range and error free its go to go. But thats just me.
