My System Specs

Default i5 750 + ASUS P7P55D EVO

I finally got around to testing the oc waters with my new set up. I decided my target would be 3.6GHz as I don't see a real need to any higher at the moment. I have to say that oc'ing the i5 was suspiciously simple compared to my Q6600 previously. Maybe I'm missing something. The 3.6 was easily achieved with minimal adjustments in the BIOS.

CPU: 3621.1MHz
Mult.: x21
BCLK: 172.4
Core Voltage: 1.25v
DRAM: 1376MHz (9-9-9-25, auto)
DRAM Voltage: 1.5v
IMC: 1.1625v

I ran Prime95 Blend test for only 6 hours and will run longer when I have more time. No failures reported. I am considering to try Intel Burn Test as well which I've never used before. Temperatures reported by Real Temp are as follows. CoreTemp which I run as a gadget reported identical temps except for the first core which showed as 2^ cooler @ max load.

Real Temp Max: 72 70 68 67
Real Temp Min: 39 37 39 34

Too hot or okay? Leave as is or try to bring voltages down to lower temps? I have cpu fan running at 80% which is a nice compromise between cooling and noise.

Feedback appreciated. I'll post pics once I figure out how.

Both the voltages and temperatures are more than reasonable.

Instead of the Intel Burn Test (IBT), try LinX 0.5.9. Set it to use all available memory and 25 runs. Expect the temperatures to be 10C hotter than what you get with Prime 95, but if it passes it's as good as gold.

Thanks, MAC. I'll check LinX out. I've read about that one but that's about it. I've kicked off a Prime session for while I'm @ work so it'll hopefully run stable for at least 10 hours.

^No water. Just the Zalman HSF in sig and case fans. The closest I'll come to H2O is I possibly might get the Corsair H50 one day.

As for LinX, MAC recommends ver 0.5.9 but I notice there are higher, or more recent, versions available. Is 0.5.9 the most reliable?

Prime ran 15 hours with all cores stable and temps reporting as previously noted. In fact, idle is now running a tad cooler and max is still 72 which happened at about the 5th hour mark. The constant max temp seems to be 70^C. I expect a few degrees cooler even when thermal grease (AS5) settles after the initial period of use.

Will try LinX or IBT next...
