Well I want to know any info because I have never overclocked a CPU before (always had a mobo that didn't have overclocking features). My comp's spec are in the sig. Also I am lazy would I be able to bump the FSB to 350? 350 is the maximum I want to to go for now. Also memory frequency you times by 2 right? It says it is at 400mhz that is 800mhz right? - noob question hehe.

You need to get some overclocking tools first. Download the newest CPU-Z off of CPUID - This will give you specs of your processor, motherboard and ram. Download coretemp, this will tell you your temperature of each core in your CPU. Coretemp does bug with G0 stepping quads, so be sure to add ~10ēC to your given temperature to be safe. You can also download speedfan, it also gives you a temperature reading, but uses a different sensor on the CPU. Log into BIOS and set your CPU an increment or two above stock, put your ram to 2.2V, and use timings 5-5-5-15. This will allow you to have quite a bit of headroom for overclocking. Next, raise your CPU FSB in 5MHz increments, making sure that you can log into Windows from there. When you find your best CPU speed, but is unstable in Windows, you must either back down on your overclock or bump up the CPU voltage a bit until you reach stability. You might need to bump up your NB voltage when reaching higher FSB speeds. The max Vcore on air that I would recommend is 1.45V, and 1.55V on water. The max temperature an overclocked Q6600 should be no more than 60ēC loaded. After you find your "stable" overclock, you must start and run a program called Orthos for a minimum of 10 hours. This program puts your CPU under load, making sure your system is stable. Be sure to watch your temperatures when running this program. (You have a quad core, so you'll need to run two instances of this program) Let me know if this works out, You should be able to get 3.0ghz with this method, report in after you reach that stable overclock.

O.K. I was scared to do it myself so I let it overclock it self with C.I.A.2 at racing witch is 11%. That is 2.78ghz. I am fine with that. If I went to 19% it wouldn't go into windows BSOD. 17% I ran orthos for 2 minutes and system reset itself. So 11% it is. Now the wierd thing id SpeedFan says that Core 0 and 1 are 53 and 51 while core 2 and 3 are at 39 and 34. Temp 1 is at 51 and temp 2 is at 55. I have been running 2 orthos at about 10 minutes now. I think I have to reset the heat sink. Also core 2 and 3 are at 0 % usage with 2 orthos running.

O.K. So I decided to go back to manual overclock and am having trouble going over 280 FSB. ![]() had to shrink my screen size to 1024 x 768.

More vcore will allow higher FSB on some mobos. Also, if possible, bump NB voltage as well.

I added more juice and nothing :(. I think I will give up on overclocking. Not like my CPU isn't good enough already :p.

Well I just found some new hope! I decided to try again and well first I tried 340 FSB with voltages to manual and ram set to auto (it was set at 1080). That failed. So I tried at 360 FSB(cause I heard of FSB walls) and set voltages to auto and ram to manual at 900 and that worked. So far only 42c in all four cores and 3.240.2 GHZ Running four orthos and will let you know if stable. Me verrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy happy!

When I ran at 360 the system felt slower and some stuff like opening MyComputer was slower. When I went to 340 the system was notably faster. 360 unstable now trying 340. So far stable and got a 12176 on 3DMark06.
