Default E8400 eo first attempt

Hi guys,

First time posting here after reading hundreds of mails.

Bought like 2 months ago a new CPU E8400 since my wife's computer toasted and gave her my old E6750.

Still on stock cooler .. ordered the Thermalright LGA775 RM kit for my old XP-90C siting in a box.

I managed to get a prime stable at 4ghz at 1.250v in bios. Far from being an expert on that chip but i think its decent. Havent tried over 4ghz yet since i'm on the stock cooler. 33C idle / 61C full load. And wondering if my old XP-90C will still be good on this chip.

What you guys think / suggest overall ?

Have a good one!

Fort

great OC with low vCore.....
Did you run P95 Blend for around 8 hrs...what were your Load Temps? That was on a Stock Cooler or am I misreading your Post?
I would imagine a full P95 stability test on a a Stock HSF at 4 Ghz would have very high Temps..

Yeah Blend over 8 hrs on stock cooler (while sleeping) around 61C (was that temp when i checked the morning) but recorded as 63C max temp during the night.

my LGA775 RM kit is out for delivery today .. the UPS guy should be there soon so i'll install my old XP-90C! Cant wait hopefully the temp will improve a lot .. i hope for like 10C dunno if i'm asking too much

With better thermal paste + XP90C you should see about 10C drop in temps for sure.

Great OC btw, on low vcore. Once you have proper cooling, see how far she will go.

Out of curiosity is Arctic Silver 5 still pretty good or i should use my old thermal paste that came with my XP-90C ?

Yeah i got like 9C cooler with the XP-90C but that's with the case open .. with my case closed i'm up at like 58C full load in crossfire (XP-90C at 4ghz). but my air flow in this case is terrible .. Antec Sonata II there's just like a 120mm fan at the back sucking the air out of the case and a kind of annoying air chamber providing "fresh air" directly to the cpu. I could still fit that "exhaust" removing a piece of it.

Anyways .. what's the max safe temp / max safe vcore for that cpu ?

Thanks

I stay below 65C (Full load) on my CPU, the E8400 I have is similar in OC ability to yours, so I've benchmarked it with as high as 1.5vcore. 24/7 use, I'm more into longevity and am happy with this 4GHz @ 1.25

I am also on my first attempt at reaching 4.0ghz with my E8400 and something is definitely wrong.

Right now I am currently at approx 3.75ghz (417mhz x 9) @ 1.34v.

Idle temps are around 36 C but during prime95, it can EASILY reach 83 C.

That doesn't make sense.

The hardware :

E8400 E0
8 GB RAM (2x2GB OCZ Gold + 2x2GB OCZ Platinum)
Asus P5Q Pro
Asus EAH4870 DK TOP 512Mb GDDR5
Antec 902 (2 x 120mm in front, 1 x 120 in the back, 1 x 200mm on top, all running low speed - changing the speed does not seem to affect the temperature... only the noise)
Xigmatek s1283 (max. speed is 1450 rpm)

I think I need to reapply the thermal paste... it's been there since March... but this is the first time that I push the CPU that hard.

... sorry if it sounds like I am am hijacking your thread...
