Default DirectX and 3DMark....

I'm on Win7, which is very new to me (Release Client). It comes with DX11.

I dl'd 3DM06 and Vanguard. 06 takes DX9 and Vanguard takes DX10. Neither will run on my system as is.

so, do I
  • install all of them? do they stack on top of one another?
  • or just pop a few .dll's into a directory
  • or keep and install each version each time I want to run a benchmark?
no backwards compatibility = sheer nonsense

when you install 3DMark 06 it should install DirectX, you "shouldn't" have to do anything. but "neither will run..." what does that entail exactly?

Is it really 3dMark Vanguard? or Vantage? I've ran Vantage on Windows 7 and I didn't have any problems whatsoever.

3DMark 06 and Vantage are 2 different programs so they will make their own folders. Posting your specs would be a big help.

What I did in both cases (OK Vantage not Vanguard) was skip the DX part of the installs, thinking I had a more up to date version on hand. I'll reinstall both and allow the DX portions to load - I just assumed I wouldn't want to roll back DX but I guess it must not do that....
