My System Specs

Default 3x wd 640gb in raid 0 short stroked.

just thought i would put up my new bench of my 3x wd 640gb in raid 0 short stroked to 150gb's. the rest of the drives are in raid 5 for for 1096gb's. i think the results are pretty good.

let me know you want to see anymore benches on the drives.

Afaik, the WD 640 Blacks are still dual 320Gb platters with two head that can move independantly (dual proc). But that that still means that despite only have three hard drives and short stroking them, there are still 6 heads moving all the time. That's why I choose the seagate 7200.12 500Gb drives for my 4-disk short stroked array, because their aerial density is higher and each drive only has 1 head. This means that I retain more usable disk space despite short stroking to 10% capacity and only have 4 heads moving (1 per disk) at any one time. all of that gives me this:

Ill do it with HDTune tonight, if i get the chance, and post it up for a more direct comparison.
