I think I'll run some comparisons between XP and Vista X64, I know XP was about 5% faster last time I benched both.

Probably more of a driver issue. Either way, nothing will stop the XP fanbois!

Win7 Fanboy... Best OS I've ever used, hands down.

I have no doubt that Win 7 will be great OS for MS (not using it yet). It is everything that Vista was supposed to be it seems. I'll probably jump on it when a service pack comes out, as Vista has been great for me.

Microsoft Windows: Windows 7 Pre-Order Offer
Versions, Features,
And as for 64/32 you're artificially limiting the os if you go for 32. There's no reason to pay more for 64 bit XP/Vista but you get all versions of windows 7 on the same disk and have both 32 and 64 bit options out of the box.

WinXP is as optimized as it's going to get. Vista has been steadily gaining on XP in terms of performance. When updating drivers, no additional focus is put on WinXP. The legacy code for XP is simply carried forward, while the update portions of the driver are for the new OS's. I would consider Vista SP1 to be just as good of an OS as XP. Windows 7 will be the performance leader right from launch.

Remember the 4Gb limit is for RAM, plus system addressing and Video memory.
If you have multiple video cards and want more than 2GB of usable memory 64bit is the only way to go.
64bit 7 is my primary OS. I have had zero 64bit related issues with Vista or 7 in the last year of use.
