Default i7 QPI Link...
Stock for the 920 is 4.8GT/s...
I see a lot of people who overclock and can keep QPI Link pretty low or even at stock.
On my Gigabyte board the lowest multiplier is 36x, and I don't see a feature that lets me set it exactly where I want it.
How high can the QPI Link speed be safely run 24/7?

my qpi is pretty high and my multi is 36 and i think my qpi is 7.2

Without a great deal of fine tuning, most chips begin to crap out in the mid to high sevens, which is where the ~220 BCLK wall comes from - (220*36= 7.920GT/s)

I'm at 7.2 with this OC...
QPI voltage 1.320V.
Is this safe to run 24/7?
I am having fun learning, but I'd like this thing to last a little while.

safe is up to you and how comfortable you are with the Voltage. imo i would be fine with that it's under safe max so. (what's your cpu voltage)

Max vcore depending on you i7 should be 1.55 at the most after that they dont respond to voltage very we'll and you'll probly need a water cooling system or LN2 to keep these puppys cool.

QPI must be with in .5 of a volt from Dram voltage at all times or you could risk sizzling you chip.

Also from reading on Xs there seems to be a ratio you can run from cpu voltage to API that gives you the best ocing resaults, Im using 1:1 right now so 1.4275 vcore and 1.4275 QPI with 1.7v Dram which is within the .5 limit.

HT should be off if you want to get any more than 4ghz, without extreme cooling.

your QPI voltage should be anywhere from 1.1 to 2.1?

still massive range,


So my ram voltage is 1.6, my QPI link is fine at 1.295 than?

That would be just fine. A big source of the problems was early on, when people were trying to use older DDR3 sticks, which were rated for operation at 1.8-1.9V.
