Nothing says you need an OS installed to test an overclock stability - Memtest86+ runs off a CD, and you can run F@H SMP or Prime95 off a Linux Live CD, provided your system has enough RAM. When I first built my computer, the first OS that ran on it was Linux, off a live CD.

Yes I am aware of this.

Just like I keep meaning to try and see if perhaps you can run Prime95 with Wine in X

HAHA...funny topic

I've installed XP SP3 (stripped) on an E8600 @ about 5.8GHz (speed I was booting at for the bench session) on LN2 before...took less than 10 minutes
Was in the middle of benching but hadn't setup an XP drive in advance...so I made one real quick...no problems

Sorry

Extreme overclockers often use LN2 (liquid nitrogen) for cooling...it is stable at about -196C and very easy to handle...a perfect candidate for extreme CPU/GPU cooling

Are you just looking for a bootable stress test? If so, last time I checked the UBCD it had a version of prime on it.

The problem I've always had trying to use Linux to OC/Stress test is that setting up something to monitor temps is a major PITA.

I reformat while overclocked, it makes it go faster

Did that for about 6 reformats, not a problem yet...
