Default Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283+MX-2+lapping?

Hi,

Just got the Xigmatek Dark Knight S 1283 (with included backplate kit) and a tube of MX-2 thermal compound. I'll be using it to OC an Intel Quad Q9400 or Q9450...

I know the Cooler got good reviews and is actually packet with the backplate kit that helps making better contact with the IHS of the CPU...

The dark Knight comes with the copper pipes treated with zinc plating or something for the looks...As this heatsink is a HDT (heat-pipe direct touch) system, do I need (or gain) to lap it? I never lapped a CPU before, but I read on it...so if it's worth it (really shaving off a few degrees) I'll go for it...especially cause I have time before my CPU shows up...

The Cooler didn't show up to my door yet, but reviews state that the build quality of the baseplate/pipes is good and square...

So is it worth it to lap this particular HSF???

lapping isn't worth it.

You'll be lucky to gain 1 or 2 degrees difference.

Thanks for a quick and honest answer!

Now I'm reading that there is a way to install those coolers so they work good or bad depending of the position of the heatpipes???
WTH? I'll just install it with horizontal airflow pushing towards the back of the case like normal setup. Is there a good/bad way to install so the heatpipe physics might be altered?

Towards the back is the best way.

Or if youve got a case with a huge fan on the top like mine having that fan on the bottom blowing air up to the exhaust works pretty well, i think having the cool air going right to the fan then blowing out the back may work a little better but i didnt have that option because of my am2 socket :(
