does that thermal thing being on pose a problem? in bios (cant remember, dont want to reset and lose my orthos time, heh)
Nope. It'll ensure that if your cpu gets to hot, the board shuts down IMMEDIATELY...good thing, IMHO...

the voltage difference...basically, when load if lifted, current is still being pushed to the cpu like it's under laod for a few milliseconds...the increase in voltage ensures that that current doesn't damage the cpu..the current is changed to voltage(Amps x Volts= Watts).

Loadline calibration ensures that the current remains consistent, which may cause damage during load-idle transitions.

seems like the stadard OC advice is to turn all that off though?

but I just can't... "but what if?" keeps popping in my head...

Bah, forget it. I mean, if you want to shoot for the highest clocks, and not worry about damage to the cpu, turn it all off...but they are there for a reason...doesn't make sense to invest the R&D dollars for something that is ultimately useless, does it?

so is any of the other stuff ok to leave on? like the one that lowers your clock and vcore when idling, I like not paying bchydro so bloody much every bill (wife off work with the baby has rocketed the bill to the moon).

I know I could try and see, just wondering if there were any "never turn this on" or whatever...?

It's generally a good idea to turn off the power saving features while you're working on your OC, but there's nothing stopping you from putting it back on once you're done playing. If it affects your stability then you'll either have to turn it off, or back off on your OC. (I never bother turning it back on as I fold 24/7 :) ).

Well, EIST(SpeedStep) is a bit different. it's a bit hard to ensure that the system will stay stable when the multi drops. Generally, only the operating speed chagnes, so the wattage at idle will be a bit less, but becuase I fold, this is a non-issue for me. You said you backed up all your stuff, so give it a try and see...some boards lower the VID as well as teh multi, so the cpu may not be stable at lowerVID, higher speed...

LoL I'm a little long winded I guess...what SS said!

nope, seems I can get maybe 3.9-ish, but why bother, lowered vcore to 5.25 at 3.8 so far so good, if this works I will lower fsb etc a notch too

3.825 seems to be a sweetspot I've found...most regular apps don't benefit from more, unless rendering or something...

Vantage score was 7351 (6613cpu/7635gpu) sound right?

3dmark06 score 13436 (sm2-5577, sm3-6526, cpu-3289)

not bad?
