Default Phenom II 3.7ghz with stock cooling

After attempting to go by 3.6ghz with AOD and having it lockup and reboot every time, and having it not boot up at all if i adjusted the settings in the bios i decided to try out a guide i saw that someone wrote. Basically the higher your clock, the higher your northbridge speed and nb voltage need to be to keep it stable.

Managed to get up to 3.7ghz, idk if it was prime stable as i didnt even bother trying, i was at 50c idle :(

Got some runs of superpi done thats about it. Should have my new cooler tonight and then ill attempt to break 4ghz, apparently its nearly impossible with a 64 bit os though.

Link to the guide for anyone interested, the northbridge table isnt up atm but he should add it today. For 3.7ghz i had to have it at 2400mhz or a 12x multiplier, and 1.3v

Edit: Btw ignore the date on the taskbar lol, too lazy to keep resetting the date and time in the bios every time i had to clear the cmos :(

Looks pretty good! You should invest in a decent Air cooler though to bring to temperatures down and your OC's even higher! I'll bet that that processor could hit 3.9 or 4Ghz with one. Good luck!

I have hit 3.6 stable on my Phenom II with only a .5 cpu OV. I will try for more, but I worry about long term stability so its weeks between adjustments.

Nice overclock, I'm pretty suprised at how well the puny stock amd cooler handles temps. I got up to 3.4 at stock volts with a 45c load temp.

Nice job! The Vendetta 2 is a great cooler, especially if you get it seated just right. The second time I seated mine (apparently a better one) I got temps that were 10 Celsius lower than the first time. That's a nice OC you've got there.

I have the same CPU and just boosted it to 3.6GHz as of last night. I tend to hold for a few weeks after every jump, stability is far mor eimpoertant to me then a few extra FPS, but I am tryen to get the most out of my investment.

I have great cooling, with my TR120 Extreme facing up and my Noctua fan pulling the air up and blowing it right too the top 2x240mm exhaust fans. I also have the rear 120mm Noctua fan reversed and pulling it cool air onto the TR120, so I have a great cool air feed to my system.

I have temps with 1 folding@home (gotta love it, OC testing and helping the search for a cure)instance per core, all running 100% on each core as reported by AMD's AoD. My temps are fluctuating between 50.5 and 51 degrees C. But I had to up the vcore from 1.4 to 1.45 to get 3.6GHz. I have not tried to push it beyond that yet, again it will be a while. I also am running +50Mhz GPU and +100MHz on memory for my 4870 Dark Knight (this cooler rocks).

What I am wondering is, how much vcore is too much? My system runs 24/7, when not gaming its Folding. I have not ventured into vcore OCing much so I want to make sure I do not over step it. 1.35vcore is the default for the PII 940 Black edition.

apparently 1.55 is safe for air cooling according to amd, i wouldnt want to push farther than that though
