Reached 4.0ghz with 1.41volts in bios btw thats on resolution 1024 * 768 so my score did seem a bit on the high side. As well hittin temps around 55-60.

Just replaced 8800 GTX with GTX 260, ended up improving my score by about 4K. Granted my CPU is OC'd to 3.8 Ghz and GTX 260 @ 722 / 1522/2.32 Ghz. I have run my CPU at 4.0 Ghz, but find 3.8 suffice for my needs. Not sure how much my score would go up with 4.0 Ghz..
Anyhow, for what it is worth...

How well do you find that EVGA vid card software works?

I did a build for a friend and his 3870X2 was giving me fits trying to control temps until I discovered that the Asus bundled software actually worked well for changing the "auto" fan speeds.

Actually I had been staying away from all Nvidia Software, including Precision as I had heard many stories of "issues", I have just started to use the Precision as of installing the GTX 260 yesterday and find it quite simple.
I was only using ATI Tool and Riva Tuner prior, but find this to be adequate and not complicated. As for setting up "profiles" haven't gone thier as I simply leave the Fan Speed at 75% and find that it cools the GPU fine, one thing I noticed right away, going from 8800 GTX to GTX 260 is the huge OC'ing capabilities (still looking for the cap) and very low temps!!
Main reason why I didn't bother with 8800GTX in SLI = HEAT!

Its just a stripped down version of rivatuner if I am not mistaken.

I'm using no issues yet, I do not use the fan control, instead I use my fan controller.

That's my main concern. I find Riva Tuner's auto fan control adjustments aren't intuitive. They work, but take a bit of reading / head scratching.

The beauty of the ASUS software was the ease of setting up new auto temp profiles.

I rarely shut my machine down...unless i want to access the BIOS for some benching setup. So i just set R/T fan-speed manually...works too good.
