Haha I knew someone was going to mention that eventually.

It's cool man I had that image stuck in my mind the entire time I was lapping, I started with 600 grit and went to 800 and just finished. It's smooth as a babies bottom and I didn't go overkill on the shiney factor as I know its got little to no baring on thermal transfer. Everythings AOK

enaberif I know why my previous attempts to get my ram at a 1:1 ratio failed with the "FSB Strap to North Bridge" set to 333. It's because I had my "DRAM Frequency", ram timings, and "DRAM Voltage" set manually. Seems if you set those they override FSB Strap.

Anywho...I did try setting Strap to 400 but my system took a crap and I even had to repair windows then it took a crap again after that so I stuck my foot in the door and pushed my way back into the bios and put everything back to default. Thats how I figured out the 333 Strap w/o setting Dram freq/timings ect

So my lap job helped a tiny bit. Tried my 450FSB/1.35000V-core again and temps are 4C lower that yesterday so it wasn't a total waste of 4 hours. Still hitting 74C at load but disabling Load Line Calibration really helped my idle temps. I'm idling at 43C now at 4.05Ghz with C1E, Speed Step and C-State disabled. I used to think Vdroop was a bad thing but now I see the benefits on temps and unneeded abuse on the system.

Thanks and congrats Infinity. That's been in my bookmarks since before I got my hardware on the 1st Oct.

Seems I just got a bad chip here. If I go anywhere past 1.2625 volts in bios my temps sky rocket into the mid 70s at load. I bought much of this hardware with an eye towards cooling and it just simply can't keep up with this hot chip. Maybe some kind person from NCIX will read this thread or my work log and show me some pity..I'd even pay a restocking fee if they'd let me.

It seems like the max CPU speed I can obtain and still keep within reasonable heat levels is around 3.85Ghz which in all respects I guess is a decent OC. I ran Prime95 last night and it passed Small FFTs stress for 7 hours so for now I'll call that stable unless anyone recommends I do a different Prime test like that blend. At load I have 428x9 @ 1.208V 57C max.

Is there any benefit lowering my multiplier? I have 1066 ram so really I could go as low as 7.5 and still keep within my ram specs and the CPU speed target.

Should I disable FSB Strap to North Bridge now seeing it's keeping my FSB/DRAM ratio at 1:1? I was told by a few ppl it's good to have ratio at 1:1 until I found a stable clock.

BTW sorry for sounding like such a gloomy Gus above, I've accepted that not everyone can get some "golden sample" and I appreciate everyones great advice.

7 hours stress test is good if you dont plan to use your O/C 24/7 for something like folding. You should be allright for gaming and all, so I would keep it there.

OR you can go water..... you'll get better temp that way and can do an higher OC. Water cooling is an hobby in itself so it can be fun but expensive. There is quite a lot of good cheap watercooling parts on the Selling thread of this forum if you ever want to try it. For a pump, block, rad, tubing and the fans, you'll end up spending at least 130 $ for used stuff.

and congrats on beating a Dell !
