I have a different motherboard, but the same processor. It's possible that you need a little more voltage - many QX9650's need a full 1.400 vCore to reach the 4GHz mark. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are a couple options in the X48 BIOS that pertain to clock skew, which are often needed in order to keep quad's stable at higher frequencies.

What MpG said - I needed to crack the 1.4V Vcore wall for my QX9650 to make it to 4.0, And it really liked the 8.5 multi, with a 450FSB (3.825 GHz, 1.33 Vcore). Go figure why.

I heard that quads liked lower fsb's. So a higher multi and lower fsb. I have mine at 4.2 420 fsb x10 Unfortunately i don't remember what my vcore is, so i'm going to have to get back to you on that one. mine has hit a wall at 4.2 no matter if i raise the vcore. I'm thinking i have to raise the nb voltages, but im not that experienced at overclocking, so im going to leave it at 4.2

420FSB is a common "hole" in X48 and QX9650, you need to either up VTT and chipset volts(as well as tweaking GTL with them), or you need to use a much lower memory divider.

what is vtL, vtt and does low memory divider mean like 2:1.......? or is that high?
currently using 4B to utilize my 1600 memory...

thanks for your help.

VTT is FSB volts. and yes, running 420mhz FSB and 1680mhz ram is probably holding you back...I mean, 8 gigs is alot of ram for the chipset!

Also, first vga temps are quite high, what vgas?

dual 4870x2s in crossfire, not OCd
pci at 100

do you think the chipset cant handle a full bundle of ram?
hmmm.

lol give up the FSB chase and up your multi, man. heh 4870x2's 8gb of ram, qx chip, freezone...

Really it depends, on which ram, but if not samsung, it's gonna have quite the draw...which means at that point you might need some high-level ram tweaking to get further...
