Vista SP1 ... Failed to install 4 times and going for 5...

yeah so the vista update service finally popped up to tell me that SP1 was available for dl and install.... now I have been hearing about this for a while some good things and some bad things... But if its apparently important I thought why not give it a shot and see if it really will improve my "windows experiance." But as of writing this it has gotten to 95 percent download complete and failed from that point 4 times in a row now. I between dl 3 and 4 I have restarted my system to see if that would solve whatever issue its running into to no avail though. Although I am not to worried about it its fairly annoying that update it telling me its important and the bloody thing still won't work. Oh yes I also forgot to mention that I probably would be on install 5 or 6 if the update installer program hadn't frozen up on me 1-2 times.... but just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues and has any advice for me. Well besides switching back to XP because I would if I could... But yeah any info would be appreciated.

System details? Most importantly your windows details and the status of some of your more major windows updates (ie. malicious software up to date? .net framework version, IE version? etc)

I work for a large computer hardware company in the IT department and we've been going through all the possible problems from SP1 for over a week now. Should be able to help.

I just use the full download ... Never had an issue on any of the computers I've upgraded.

well every other important update was installed the first time and with no problems so this is a little odd to me. The error code is 80070570 if that helps at all. But as of writing this the update has now failed 7 times...

Can't say I've run into the error myself, but searching the internet for that error code seems to give the impression that a file is either inaccessible, corrupt, or unreadable.

I would give the manual installation a try and, if that fails, I would run some diagnostics on your hard drive and/or memory.

Also, Microsoft is providing free support (e-mail, chat, phone) for SP1.

i tried to do the standalone install from the link you gave me but apparently my vista install is not in a compatible language... so from a BC future shop I got a PC with a random and unknown language install of Vista apparently...? The whole corrupt idea makes sense to me a bit though because I have never seen the DL make it to 100 percent before the attempted install failed so it could be a corruption issue causing the install to fail. It is still freaking out though that according to manual install I am not running an english install of Vista... after almost a year of using it to have not one indication thats its not english takes LAME to a whole new level...

Format and do a clean instasll with your Vista cd then load the service pak or see if it will.
