Default Back up freeware software

I am looking for a basic back up freeware software so I can replace my father's now dead maxtor onetouch with the 2nd hard drive they have in their system as their back up hard drive.

What I'd like it to to be able to do:
Back up on a set time/daily basis
Only back up new files, keep old ones or/and existing files.

I had used a simple one a few years ago on my server, but now I can't remember what it was called since I no longer have that hdd lying around.

Backup maker

Seems to work well and it comes with a wizard to set up the whole process.

I always have a quick look at sourceforge when I'm on the hunt for open source / freeware. I don't have any personal experience with it, but cobian strikes me as a name that's been around for a while, and it's got pretty high ratings stretching back 4 years.

Cobian is good, its only downfalls are shadow copy and it don't always get along and I have found its ftp sometimes wonky. If Duplicati gets service support I really like it and use it for webdev backups.

I use Syncback - I've explored a few piece of backup software, this one I've found is the best for what I needed, and it matches your criteria.

What OS? File History in Win8 works pretty great, pretty much the same as Time Machine on Mac OS now.
