If it were just a everyday surfing rig id toss a Linux distro on it that actually has 3D drivers you can install call it done.

Actually I installed a win 7 on a system just like that 2 weeks ago, that one had 2 GB of ram only, on a Geforce 6150SE mobo and I was amazed, for websurfing, HD video and youtube HD streaming was doing it admirably. with 4 GB it should be flying. HDD was a WD 300GB Caviar16 from 2007.

I've got a similar vintage Pentium D 945 running Win7 64 with 8GB DDR2 and Velociraptor HDD. Runs fine for surfing, media consumption, olde skool (Steam/GoG) gaming, and the like. Heck, with a 6670 it'll even run WoW at a reasonable rate.

Nice, then I will install a windows 7 64 bit, I would use it for web surfing and play some ocational 2 player games. If I were to even think of upgrading the GPU then what would be a good choice? Right now there is a 9500GT right next too me but i must say its shit.....

What would be a nice upgrade?

since you only have 4Gb ram there is no use using a x64 bit windows might as well use a x86 ( 32bit) windows. the only thing that I can think of why to use x64 version of windows is if you have more then 4 GB ram

32 bit limits you to 4gb TOTAL memory. That means that any memory on the graphics card deducts from the available memory. Honestly, if you have more than 3gb then 64 bit is the right choice.

I'll throw my hat in for x64 (LHN91 is right) win 7. Solid and works well on older hardware.
