Yeah, now the Windows Phone team is in charge of desktop Windows, which I find kind of hilarious.

I'm less concerned with who is there as I am with their actions since the shakeup... everything I've seen/heard/read suggests to me that somebody over there pointed out that every one of their business accounts is voting with their feet by migrating to win7 from XP as opposed to their flagship OS and thus finally got somebody to admit that maybe nobody was following their vision of a single OS to rule all.

I will never install Win 8.1, because win 7 is going to be around for a while yet. I think by then we'll have a better understanding of how gaming on Linux will shake out. Microsoft, might not even be around anymore. Don't get me wrong, they'll be here for a while but the company might get busted up and componets of said company, Sold Off. I think I'd install Linux, rather than 8.1. I'd buy another copy of Win 7, first.

Good riddance, I say. Screw DX12.

Just wish ms would of thought maybe a Tablet/phone os isnt a good idea for desktop. Or at least looked at touch screen tech did least one test group coulda saved Em millions if they'd actually seen no one uses touch screens for games.

You're delusional if you think gaming drives the PC industry. Microsoft should be worrying about their corporate users first, and rightfully so since that is the majority of their client base for OS and software sales.

Thats not an excuse for touch-based OS development, but gaming definitely isnt driving the industry.

I also just switched to 8.1.

I find the boot time to be awesome! Wow does windows load fast. Things I still don't like is the start screen and the stupid side bar. I installed Classic Start and am now much happier.

It'll be ready for prime time once the next major update arrives and returns the option for a full nested start menu..... ;)

That said... based on my mITX use I'd probably opt for win 8.1 if I were buying an OS for a new personal PC.

They really do need to throw a bone to the current owners of legit 8.0 media though... it's a major PITA to get to a fully updated 8.1 install from there.
