I think it may be best to just bite the bullet and get a 2nd PC, have one as a media server only using Windows and another as a HTPC with XBMC installed on it. I was thinking of just getting an Intel NUC Celeron barebones kit and using it for XBMC. Then I can use my current HTPC as a Media Server, my only question is regarding RAID, I checked and the motherboard is capable of the following 0/1/10/JBOD, I guess RAID 10 is the best option there on a server.

I'd generally recommend software snapshot raid rather than hardware raid for a media server. I use the awesome Snapraid on my Windows server box.

If you want to go software raid, I absolutely love using Drive Bender, allows you to run a virtual software raid with some redundancy if you want it. If you wipe and install windows or take those drivers elsewhere and install Drive Bender it will rebuild your software raid for you automatically.

Biggest problem with Drive Bender is that it only does file duplication, it has no option for any kind of parity.

I absolutely HATED FlexiRaid, soo many issues and problems with that software. Was glad to find and migrate to Drive Bender.

If you are just streaming media, use Win8's storage pool feature.

I found flexraid had issues too, that's why I moved to snapraid. ;)

And I had tons of issues w/ Drive Bender. After two years of solid use I am moving on to something else.
