My System Specs

Default DirectX 11.2 exclusive to Xbox One and Windows 8.1

Well, I knew DX 11.1 was to be Win 8 exclusive. This "Tiled Resources"seems to be every bit as epic of a rlease as DX 11 itself, if it works as advertised (Hello Froblins). I'm not sure If I should jump for joy for the advancement in graphical wizardry or lament the cronyism which will bring it to light. Bittersweet.

Looks like this will help with GPU's that have a "mere" 3GB's or less vram. Which is a good thing.

Thanks to the large memory capacity of the Xbox One, the level of detail games offer could be increased b quite a bit. For PC gamers, the update might stimulate them to make the change to Windows 8.
Might stimulate? More like agitate! **** Like we will have some say in the matter?

I'd like to say that they'd never be so stupid as to shoot themselves in the foot by ignoring a large segment of their ever dwindling consumer base in the hopes of generating win8 adoption, but their actions over the last year have pretty much convinced me that they're either clueless on who their true consumers are, or they're still basing their policy decisions on the mistaken belief that they (and they alone) can drive what the market wants.

I agree with this statement wholly.

Ugh...really. What are they doing. I wonder how much of a difference in programming there would be with dx11/11.1 (whatever ps4 will use) and 11.2. I really can't see developers spending much effort and $ on changing code to take advantage of whatever small advantages 11.2 will offer.

I am not buying windows 8 for my PCs Microsoft.

I suppose now it gives people excuses to buy a large amount of RAM since Tiled Resources actually uses both RAM and VRAM to create the textures, in their demo they had a 16 MB video card but god knows how much RAM they had in it. Will it convince me to get Windows 8.1? Well if my GPU supports DirectX 11.2 then sure but since I'm guessing the answer is no, I won't get it.

Nothing new - Microsoft tried and failed with this back in Windows Vista + DX10.
IIRC the DX10/11 only games didn't come out until Windows 7 was out as no game dev in their right minds would force people to use Vista for their game. The same thing is going to happen here (at least for any game that isn't a tech demo with horrible gameplay).

I'd be OK with this as long as Microsoft puts the resources that would've been placed into supporting DX11.2 on Windows 7 to fixing the Windows 8 experience (rather than adding more confusing fluff).
